P: Pumpkinhead's son is resurrected from the grave after a group of teens inadvertently summon him after causing his mother, a local witch, to burn to death.
The original Pumpkinhead had some interesting mythology, some interesting back story and even a few interesting characters, but that all ended up taking a backseat to a generic teen slasher story. Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings tries to correct those mistakes by letting us see how the creature came to be and his relationship with the witch character.
I appreciate that the film saw what was a missed opportunity in the original film and tried to do something to fix that, even if the explanations it provides are a bit illogical and on the simplistic side. I also appreciate how the film tried to take the events that led to the creature being created and tie it with the events that are happening in the film's present.
On the other hand, that's the film's problem. The story line involving how Pumpkinhead came to be and his own quest for revenge doesn't mesh or gel with another plot thread involving Pumpkinhead killing off thrill seeking teens. Pumpkinhead II tries. It tries really hard, but the execution is lacking and they still haven't found a way to integrate two opposing storylines into one cohesive film. [R] 88 mins.
