The Melancholy Fantastic - Review - @BrandonCSites

The Melancholy Fantastic (2011) **1/2
D: A.D. Calvo
C: Amy Crowdis, Robin Taylor, Josh Caras, Geneva Carr, David Pirrie, Shirley Knight
Plot Synopsis: A girl's relationship with a life size doll gets dangerously erratic when she falls for a goth kid.

Review: An eerie character study that maintains a level of tension from beginning to end. With The Melancholy Fantastic, there's this feeling that something bad, something awful is going to happen at any minute as the film's main character drifts about. There's something beneath the surface that is going to explode at any moment. When, why and how is what creates this feeling of unease that permeates throughout The Melancholy Fantastic. The film's bold premise is sure to draw in viewers looking for something different, but it's the film's unwaveringly tense atmosphere that's going to keep viewers on the edge of their seat in anticipation of what is going to happen. [Not Rated] 83 mins.
