Amityville Horror, The (2005) - Review - @BrandonCSites

Amityville Horror, The (2005) **
D: Andrew Douglas
C: Ryan Reynolds, Melissa George, Jesse James, Jimmy Bennett, Chloe Grace Moretz, Rachel Nichols, Philip Baker Hall

Plot Synopsis: Remake of the 1979 horror film in which a young couple move into a house with a troubled history. Almost immediately, they are haunted by ghostly spirits and a presence that is intent on possessing the husband and forcing him to kill his family.

Review: These haunted house movies are all starting to feel exactly alike. Luckily for The Amityville Horror, it has the distinction of being a remake of one of the most popular horror films ever made. Unfortunately for viewers, that’s all that this film has to offer to separate itself from the pack.

The Amityville Horror is competently made and acted, but it’s oh so predictable. Things go bump in the night. There's unexplained noises. People act weird. A priest attempts to bless the house ....unsuccessfully. The Amityville Horror goes through the motions without doing anything terribly original or that shows the least bit of innovation. Without the title, this is just another haunted house film. The only real point of interest is the leading man, Ryan Reynolds, looks awfully good shirtless. [R] 90 mins.
