Slumber Party Massacre III, The - Review - @BrandonCSites / #RogerCorman

Slumber Party Massacre III, The (1990) *1/2
D: Sally Mattison
C: Keely Christian, Brittain Frye, Maria Ford, Hope Marie Carlton
Plot Synopsis: A bunch of teenage girls throw a slumber party when one of the girls parents goes out of town, but another killer with a drill has showed up to put a damper on the fun.

Review: Most people considered part two to be a disastrous misstep for this series. Personally, I think it's underrated. Slumber Party Massacre III attempts to go back to what made the original a cult hit. For awhile, it succeeds. It's fun, brainless entertainment. The teenage girls gossip, talk about boys, order pizza, strip and then someone with a drill drills! However, the killer is revealed early on along with the motive behind this new killing spree and that's when Slumber Party Massacre III falls apart.

The motive behind this killer's murder spree deals with an important social issue. I will commend the people behind this film for being bold to tackle such an issue, but a film entitled Slumber Party Massacre III was the wrong forum for tackling such an issue. The actor (or actress) playing the driller killer struggles with the role and with what that role encompasses while also having to deal with some unintentionally funny dialogue.

With the killer being revealed early on and the characters being aware that there's a killer, all that's left is for the characters to run around in histrionics before being dispatched of. [R] 87 mins.
